Metal Nightmare Magazine Review:
Incinerating the Meek

(Twilight-Vertrieb)

I sure as hell hope that you remember EXUMER and their classic Possessed by Fire album. If you don't, then stop reading this review, get a copy of that album, listen to it and then come back. There. Now all of you either already were or now are familiar with Mr. Mem von Stein and his over the top vocal style. These days, he's fronting SUN DESCENDS out of New York City. Still doing the thrash thing (although he did stray from it for a while), and he's still a maniac on the microphone. He does sound different from his EXUMER days, but do extreme vocals for a few years and then see how your voice sounds. His voice still destroys a whole lot of other people out there. Somehow or another, SUN DESCENDS has taken elements from both the old Bay Area and German scenes and mashed (moshed?) them together. Not an easy thing to do, as those scenes were extremely distinct from each other. For the most part, I hear a lot more Bay Area (especially TESTAMENT and VIO-LENCE), but there's definitely a little DESTRUCTION and EXUMER of course in there. The guitars could be a little higher in the mix at times, as the snare drum, cymbals and Mem's voice tend to cover up the other elements. On the other hand, it does give Incinerating the Meek a more "in your face" kind of sound, and I'm almost always for that. Extra kudos for the photo of Mem on the traycard. Definitely one of the coolest/funniest live shots I've ever seen. Nice NASTY SAVAGE shirt too.
